Effect of Row Ratio and Planting Methods on Growth, Water Use Efficiency, Yield and Economics of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and Mentha (Mentha arvensis L.)

This study examines the intercropping system of wheat and mentha involves simultaneous cultivation two or more crops on same piece land for higher productivity. Japanese mint, a member Lamiaceae family, has potent essential oil. Oil extracted from leaves use in aromatherapy, food flavouring, medicine. Hence, field experiment was conducted to effect Row ratio Planting methods Growth, Yield Performance (Triticum aestivum L.) Mentha (Mentha arvensis during 2016-17 at Soil Conservation Water Management Farm investigate response when intercropped with under various row planting methods. The laid out Randomized Block Design (RBD) three replication keeping one variety ‘Shivalik’& Wheat ‘Unnat Halna’. consisting nine treatments are T1: Sole direct sowing (50cm apart), T2: transplanting T3: (25cm T4: Wheat+Mentha (d, 1:1), T5: (t, T6:Wheat+Mentha 2:2), T7:Wheat+Mentha T8: Paired+Mentha 2:3), T9: 2:3). results indicated that (T3) had highest plant population (662.40 initially, 326 final), height (83.80 cm), grain yield (39.80 q/ha) wheat. In case mentha, (T8) exhibited maximum final (119.43), (72.51 maturity), equivalent oil (189.05 l/ha). also recorded total water (647 mm), efficiency (0.292 kg/ha/mm water), (1.50), economic parameters such as gross return (228,868), net (160,828), B:C (3.36). (163.35 l/ha) found (T1).
